Skye Meri Esson was a girl that did no speak with words. But she was very expressive nonetheless. She enjoyed music, listening to stories, and seeing her friends and family. Skye was a great teacher, as was her mother. She showed not only what she could do, but helped us access new skills and abilities within ourselves. She brought out the best in those in her circle. She helped us understand a depth of love and understanding that we previously unknown to us. She was our little “space mermaid,” born of star dust in the Mermaid City of Norfolk, same as her mother and brother. She is loved and missed more than can be conveyed here.
Skye’s family would like to express its deep gratitude to the wonderful people at Edmarc for their invaluable assistance over the first three years of Skye’s life, to the staff and other residents of St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children in Norfolk for being her second home and family for almost two years, and to the countless doctors, nurses, therapists, and other staff members of CHKD who provided compassionate and tireless medical care to her for many months.
Therefore it seems only appropriate to leave a permanent marker at CHKD as a symbolic sign of her time and impact there. We are thankful for those that join in this effort to raise funds for her brick in CHKD’s Butterfly Garden.
With gratitude,
Skye’s family
